Happy Fri-yay! Reader,

Welcome to the 4x Friday, four of the coolest things I've found, learned, or experienced, this past week.

What I read

The lengthy list of jobs no longer existing includes Knockerupper, Linkboy, Pinsetter, and Mursmäcka. Although these jobs became extinct in the 1800s and early 1900s, many essential jobs have been lost over time as technology advances. About 800 million jobs could disappear due to automation by 2030, and 39 to 73 million jobs may become automated in the US alone. However, a study by McKinsey Global Institute suggests that only 5% of current jobs will be eliminated entirely if current automation technology is adopted. Stacker's list of 50 jobs no longer hiring highlights how jobs have changed throughout history, with some advancements improving the overall quality of life. Who I followed

Orissa Kelly is not found on Wikipedia yet. But when you search her name, you see her on all the social media channels and IMDb, where she's listed as a stunt woman in the 2017 Wonder Woman movie and appears as herself on Britain's Got Talent. Orissa Kelly is one of the world's only fire foot archery performers. Reportedly, she earned $130,000 last year, performing around the globe. Before that, she made a living doing contortion and aerial performances. The young lady is practically a complete circus. To top it all off, she's just published an e-book, The Ultimate Guide to Social Media Success ($10.95). When asked if she's ever slipped and shot someone, she answered, "Not by mistake." What I find most impressive is her "OK" logo.

What I signed up for

"EQ" is shorthand for emotional intelligence. Think of it like "IQ," but for emotions. When you hear that someone has a "high EQ," that usually means they're skilled at leading a team, collaborating with others, managing difficult situations—or all of the above. I've encountered an email course where a new "EQ rule" is dropped into my inbox each day for seven days. My experience is there are two emails per day. So far, no gimmicky sales, only more helpful info. The emails are a short read with tips that can be immediately implemented. It's completely free, and it's the first time I've noticed the unsubscribe at the top of an email instead of the bottom. There are actually 21 rules, according to the book The Rules of Emotional Intelligence by Justin Bariso, the author of the book and the email course.

What watched

Dubbed the "very first design competition between architects and AI," I watched a video (00:14:19) that tests the ability of AI to design a house in comparison to a team of humans (Thanks, JT, for passing it along). Humans blindly judged their overall design, their rendering, and their description of the project. The final score was 68% to 32%, but I won't say who wins. There has been a lot of talk about generative AI lately. ChatGPT was released in November 2022. I've been getting assistance from Jasper.ai since July 2021. I feel AI, as a writing tool, is progressively improving. It's probably a combination of that and my learning to better use the tool. The video concludes, "Don't be afraid of AI; try to use it to your advantage."

Have a triumphant week.

Happy Fri-Yay! Reader, Welcome to the 4x Friday, four of the coolest things I've found, learned, or experienced this past week. If someone thinks of you and forwards this email, please consider subscribing. What I watched The Super Bowl, of course. Rebecca is a Patrick Mahomes fan. Me? Andy Reid. I'm mostly a fan of advertising, and this year didn't disappoint. Many in the past have relied on a punchline. This year, the best, in my opinion, was about storytelling. The Dunkings (00:01:00),...

If someone thinks of you and forwards this email, please consider subscribing. What I watched I watched 151 celebrity house tours and they’re full of lies(00:20:22). That's not something I did. It's the title of a YouTube video I watched (thanks, Garrett, for passing it along). The video is by Kendra Gaylord, who talks about architecture in pop culture and how it...
